[Divergence] Dashboard groups the instance sidebar, replaces onboarding tiles with a setup checklist, and rewrites the Write API page (powersync-dashboard #554) #627

Description

@benitav

What's changing: The PowerSync Dashboard restructures the instance-level shell. The sidebar groups its instance links under Configure, Connect Your App, and Monitor headings, with Health and Settings standing alone; the link names and order are unchanged. Card and page loading states become content-shaped skeletons instead of generic spinners. The Health view's five onboarding cards are replaced by a single "Set Up Your Instance" checklist tracking setup progress. The Write API view is rewritten around a five-step walkthrough distinguishing what the user implements from what PowerSync's SDK handles.

High priority — existing docs are now inaccurate or incomplete
None identified. The current dashboard docs describe these views generically enough that this restructuring doesn't contradict them.

For reviewer consideration — worth documenting

  • PowerSync Dashboard (https://docs.powersync.com/tools/powersync-dashboard), Health view: the onboarding cards this view used to show aren't named on this page, so nothing is wrong, but the new "Set Up Your Instance" checklist is worth naming as the current entry point for initial instance setup.
  • PowerSync Dashboard (https://docs.powersync.com/tools/powersync-dashboard), Write API view: currently described only as "Resources for exposing the write API endpoint." The view now walks through a five-step data-flow explanation of what the user writes versus what PowerSync's SDK generates, worth considering whether that description needs expanding.
