It might be worth starting a discussion to see how feasible it would be, but here is an issue to keep on our radar regarding the installer: we are currently on WiX Toolset v3.14.1, and that branch (v3) has been without community support since February 2025. It won't receive any more patches, not even security fixes, moving forward
The active alternative today is WiX v6 (or v4/v5 if we prefer something with fewer sudden changes, though those aren't getting new fixes either since v6 was released). The .wxs language is quite compatible across v4/v5/v6, so it's not a migration we would have to repeat every year
There is no automatic converter from v3 to v4+, so the .wxs migration is manual. So, yes, it will probably be tedious, but I think we’ll have to do it sooner or later, perhaps once everything else is fairly mature
for the moment, there's no rush. Of course, I don't think we have an actual issue right now (setting aside potential security vulnerabilities), obviously, the famous 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it
