• static_h: an asmjit failure is an unconditional hermes_fatal, so a platform that refuses executable memory turns a JIT *request* into a dead process instead of an interpreted one

facebook/hermes#2187 · Filter by author altween opened on Sep 17, 2026

• static_h: HERMESVM_ALLOW_JIT=1 means "enabled if supported by the platform", but support is resolved only from predefines — asmjit can answer it at run time

• static_h: the sampling profiler has no build switch, so a target with no POSIX signal delivery has to stub sigaction / sigemptyset / pthread_kill for an instrument it cannot run

• shermes emits GNU-style compile and link flags unconditionally, so its own default SHERMES_CC (= CMAKE_C_COMPILER = clang-cl) cannot link what it compiles on Windows

• lib/CMakeLists.txt passes /WHOLEARCHIVE:hermesvm_a as a bare name; lld-link cannot open it, so the shared hermesvm (and therefore shermes) does not link under clang-cl

• API/jsi/jsi/CMakeLists.txt tests CMAKE_CXX_COMPILER_ID MATCHES "MSVC", so clang-cl gets neither branch's flags

• static_h: the tree cannot be compiled with clang-cl — CMake's /EHsc is stripped and hermes_update_cxx_flags replaces it with GCC spellings clang-cl ignores
