Show toolbar item text descriptions on mobile #2002
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Unable to see the descriptions of toolbar items without pressing the buttons on mobile. If you hold down on an icon its description is displayed but when you release your finger that action is carried out
Describe the solution you'd like
The ability to hold down on the icons on mobile - to display the descriptions - without it activating the buttons.
Whilst holding down the user should be able to slide their finger across the other icons. The icon currently under selection should display its description. When the user lifts their finger from the screen, nothing should happen until they click a button.
Hi, I would like to work on this under the Runbox 7 feature bounty program if P4-low enhancements are still eligible. I have Angular/TypeScript experience with touch and pointer interactions and can implement the press-and-slide tooltip behavior with focused regression tests, following the repository AI disclosure rules. I can deliver in 2–3 days; could you confirm the bounty tier and assignment before I start?
Hi @RunboxJoe, I read #2002, the linked #110, the contribution guidelines, and the toolbar source at cf7250c. The message-preview toolbar has tooltip-bearing buttons, menu triggers and links. Should the initial scope cover that toolbar (including its overflow control), or all icon toolbars?
My proposed interaction is: an ordinary tap still activates once; a long press enters description preview; sliding updates the description under the finger; releasing or cancelling that preview triggers no action. The next deliberate tap and keyboard activation should still work. I would cover those transitions, cancellation, menu/link activation and scrolling with regression tests committed separately from the implementation, then run the required full ci-tests suite using the documented local mock setup.
I see @dimin4241-svg has already expressed interest. Is an additional contribution wanted, and how should it be coordinated? If so, could you confirm whether this issue qualifies for the $100 Bronze feature reward (or another agreed amount), the acceptance scope, and payment by PayPal or bank transfer, including timing?
Codex is preparing this proposal for @freapsy and would assist with implementation and testing, with the required AI disclosure and human review before any PR. This is a source-based proposal; I have not run or changed Runbox yet.
